About the Award

The Green Supplier Award has been developed by IMEX and GMIC (Green Meeting Industry Council) to recognise environmental excellence and innovation within the meetings industry.
The annual Green Supplier Award recognises a meeting supplier (e.g. hotel, convention centre, CVB etc.) that has made innovative efforts to reduce the environmental impact of their operations through planning, implementation and evaluation.

Previous Winners
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts were awarded the 2008 Green Supplier 'Gold' Award. A staunch advocate of environmental stewardship within the travel and tourism industry, Fairmont was the first major hotel company in North America to include green business practices as an intrinsic part of its operations. Especially impressing the judges was the Fairmont Eco Meet programme - an environmentally friendly conferencing programme, intended to minimise harm to the environment during meetings, conferences and similar events. Developed as a "green meeting" and conference planning option, meeting planners can organise conferences and events that consider the environment, result in reduced waste, and also conserve valuable resources.

The 2008 Green Supplier 'Silver' Award went to The Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre (VCEC), whose environmental record is a long standing one that has been reflected in all aspects of building facilities and operations for well over a decade. As a result, VCEC has demonstrated an ongoing leadership role that is now being adopted and / or embraced by other convention centres as well as industry groups such as PCOs and clients.
